Hey everyone! I decided to start up a weekly thing, which I will call Touhou Arrangements (THA). Each week I'll pick a touhou theme and 2-4 arrangements of it. That way I can share some really great touhou arrangements and show how much variety there is in the touhou scene. It'll also make sure that the blog has some new content each week while I work on full reviews and other longer write-ups. I hope this is something that you guys will like! The first theme that I've picked is Eternal Shrine Maiden, from the first touhou game, Highly Responsive to Prayers. I think it's a very fitting way to start off the weekly series! You can sort of say it is one of Reimu's themes, Read more for the rest of the post!
One of the few rare original themes that I enjoy from ZUN. A bit dark sounding but fitting for the game's story as Reimu sets out to punish whoever's responsible for wrecking the Hakurei Shrine.
Like with most Syrufit and Poplica* arrangements, the theme is quite subtle here. If I didn't listen closely to the song, I probably wouldn't have noticed that this was an arrangement of Eternal Shrine Maiden. The point that stands out most to me is around 0:45 when Mei Ayakura starts singing. I like the subtlety though, as it allows Poplica* to be more creative while using the original theme as the basis for the arrangement. Mei Ayakura's vocal work is great as always, but I really liked the echo effect that Poplica* used for her vocals.
What a strange name for an arrangement of Eternal Shrine Maiden. This is a Jazz arrangement featuring live saxophones played by the arranger himself. It's a fun sounding arrangement with a bit of retro flair near the end. I definitely recommend listening to the full album if you liked this.
A guest track featured on t=node's album, CHANNEL † NODE (will probably be reviewed later!). This is one of my favorite instrumental touhou arrangement of all time. It is quite true to the original theme, but RD Sounds manages to stuff so much emotion into the arrangement. The instruments sound so beautiful yet so sorrowful. You have to hear it to see what i mean; words aren't enough to express the emotions found in this arrangement.
