It's spring Reitaisai once again, and that means more touhou albums! The event happened just yesterday, so albums are starting to roll out. Most previews can be found in this soundcloud playlist by Mai88@EtErnAl scArlEt but if not, then I will provide the link for it. The albums that I'll be talking about will be listed in the same order as in the preview, for easy reference. There are a couple of notable mentions that I'm excited to talk about, so lets get started!

Months and 7 reviews later, here's my Comiket 89 recap! I think I've listened to more albums this comiket than any other before. That being said though, there weren't a significant amount of albums that I ended up liking. However, there were a couple of albums that really stood out to me this Comiket.
[Osamuraisan] - Osamuraisan Selection vol.7 ~Bosa Lon~ Osamuraisan... how should I put this? He's a damn doujin music GOD. I can't believe that I've never heard of him before this album. I discovered this album randomly while looking through 9tensu's C89 albums. The crossfade immediately caught my ears because I've been starving for some acoustic guitar music ever since Forest306 went on break (he's sort of back now btw). In addition, the music was also Bossa Nova, one of my favorite genres! Third point, as if the first two weren't enough, was the beautiful voice that I was hearing from Lon. I couldn't resist listening to the album soon after hearing the preview.
A little bit about Osamuraisan: he is a solo doujin artist who specializes in making acoustic guitar arrangements of popular vocaloid songs. You can find his music on his YouTube channel, Spotify, and Google Music. I believe that his YT channel has a lot of arrangements that aren't released on his albums, so be sure to check those out as well. Anyways! Just to reiterate, this album is a bossa nova arrangement album of 6 popular vocaloid/original songs. They're all sung by Lon but Osamuraisan also included 6 instrumental versions for those who are more interested in his guitar work. Ready for the review? Read on! Twitter | VGMDB | Blog (old)
Happy Birthday, Mei Ayakura!!! I've wanted to do a post like this for a long time, and it looks like I made it just in time for her birthday. There are a ton of doujin vocalists that I love listening to, but Mei Ayakura has a special place in my heart. I titled this post, "the first love" as she is the the first vocalist that I really enjoyed listening to when I started getting into touhou music. Mei Ayakura doesn't need much of an introduction if you're a regular reader here or if you've listened to a lot of touhou music. She's probably most well known for her work with Alstroemeria Records (ALR), but she actually started her "career" in 2008 at Anipix at quite a young age (unknown) along with Tsubaki Ichimatsu, hiro.na (Syrufit), and Takuya Sakai (Poplica*). From there, she has branched out to working with well-known circles such as ALR, Syrufit/Poplica, Cytokine, CROW'SCLAW, and Pizuya's Cell. As such, she's mostly featured in electronic, rock, and metal arrangements. [Floating Cloud] - 東方アイリッシュ7 Phantasm Festa It's a bit late since St. Patricks day is over (not that I even celebrate it), but I wanted to share this pretty amazing album from Fall Reitaisai 2 with you guys. And while this is an instrumental album, it's not the one that I was planning to write about from my last post.
Floating Cloud is a touhou doujin circle that makes Irish Folk arrangements with live instruments. Pretty unique, as this circle is the first one I've heard with that kind of sound. If you've listened to Yasunori Mitsuda's works (Chrono Trigger/Cross, Xenogears), you'd notice some celtic influence in his music. If you like that, then definitely read on for the rest of the review. Otherwise, it'll be a great opportunity for me to introduce this circle to you guys! |
