Today's post is pretty long and lengthy, so I thought it would be appropriate to use the picture of a bar from one of the more interesting albums from today. I think I've covered about every broad genre, so check out the rest of the post and see if there's anything that interests you! [AdamKadmon] - トレイン Genre - Rock, Vocal, Touhou Site | XFD (nico nico) AdamKadmon is a relatively newer circle compared to the other rock circles that I've mentioned before. Their stuff sounds pretty good in general and I like what I heard with this preview. The "Greenwich in the sky" arrangement around 2:27 and the softer track around 4:36 stood out to me.
[Diao ye Zong (withered leaf)] - 密 Genre - Various, Vocal, Touhou Site | XFD (Scroll down) Diao ye Zong, aka RD-Sounds, has been around for quite a while. He's pretty well known (at least to me) for making some really outstanding vocal arrangements in the past. Every album of his features Meramipop but he often works with other guest vocalists such as 3L (another one of my favorite vocalists), and Nayuta (from ENS). Here is my favorite arrangement from him (綴, [C81]), and possibly my favorite arrangement of any of Alice's themes. If you didn't like Meramipop before, maybe you'll start liking her now. It's always great to hear her voice outside of Hard Rock. She's just perfect for the lyrics in this song, and the accompanied instrumentals are very well done. Anyways, RD-Sounds and his vocalists did a pretty good job on this album from what I can tell with the preview. There is a main crossfade on his website but also 4 longer previews of his other tracks on the album. The track that really stood out for me was Kirisame Eversion. I loved Meramipop's voice here, and especially the piano during the instrumental segments. After some digging around, I found out that the original theme for this arrangement is actually not from Touhou. The name, "Witch of Love Potion" would make you think that it's Marisa right? But it's actually from a game called Torte Le Magic, which had music composed by ZUN (The creator of Touhou). It's pretty nice to hear arrangements of ZUN's other music every once in a while. The sound quality of RD-Sounds is actually pretty good considering that it's mainly pop or rock music for the most part. Certainly one of the best in that regard.
[Melodic Taste] - 紺色のシンフォニック・スイート Genre - Orchestral, Touhou Site | XFD Melodic Taste is one of the few active circles that make Touhou orchestral music. The others being Fox Laboratory, Tutti Sound, Kokyo Active NEETs, and one more (I'm forgetting the name). My first experience with them was with Anime Song Orchestra II, which had arrangements of Madoka Magica's "Connect" and "Magia". This is the first of Melodic Taste's two C89 releases. It's an orchestral touhou arrangement album. It sounds okay, but I do prefer Fox Laboratory's style more. It's worth a listen just cause there aren't that many orchestral circles out there. [Melodic Taste] - Anime Song Orchestra V Genre - Orchestral, Vocal, Anime Site | XFD (nico) The second of Melodic Taste's C89 release is an orchestral arrangement album of recent anime themes. I don't really keep up with anime so I'm not familiar with any of the original songs on this album except for the Love Live OP. That arrangement did sound pretty good and the others were enjoyable too. However, the arrangements would be more enjoyable if you're familiar with the original themes. The first disc contains all the orchestral arrangements while the second disc of this album contains the orchestral arrangements accompanied by guest vocalists. Admittedly, I enjoyed the arrangements on this album more than the ones on their Touhou album. I was really impressed with both the orchestral version and vocal arrangements of Love Live's OP, "それは僕たちの奇跡"(Track #3 on both albums, starting at 3:09 and 18:23 in the preview). I really liked how Melodic Taste used multiple vocalists and panned them out accordingly. They really kept the feel of the original while making it sound more epic. Highly recommended!! [Release Hallucination] - Melancholia Genre - Progressive Metal, Vocal, Original Site | XFD A short 2 track single by a progressive metal circle called Release Hallucination. It's my first time hearing their work but it sounds pretty good. The recording quality is a tad bit better than what I've heard from other doujin hard rock or metal circles. The instruments aren't smeared sounding and Emi's voice is very clear. It's definitely worth a listen if you're into Progressive Metal. Check out their Bandcamp page for their other works.
[Bassy] - 新しい現代ポップスB feat. 茶太 Genre - Pop, Original Site | XFD Okay I'm not sure what happened with track #3 here. It must be a guest arrangement or something cause It sounds way off compared to the other tracks. Overall it's a cute sounding pop album if you're into that sort of thing. Bassy's last album at C88, 刹那ムジカ, was a bit different sounding. Still pop, but minus the cuteness that's his C89 album. Its worth Recording/mastering quality is... okay. Could definitely be better but it sounds fine for pop to be honest. I'd say that both albums are worth checking out. [HUMMING LIFE] - アンサンブルカクテル (Ensemble Cocktail or Cocktail Ensemble..?) Genre - Instrumental, Vocal, Original Site | XFD What a nice find! This is a concept album based around the theme of live performances in a tavern. I really like the overall smooth and light feeling that I get when I listen to the tracks on the preview. There are both female and male vocals on this album in addition to instrumental tracks. The sound quality is actually surprisingly good as well, with good dynamics and clear sounding instruments. Definitely one of the better finds of this Comiket, and one that I really look forward to listening to when it comes out. So that's all for this post, which will be the second to last of the C89 preview posts. The next post will be a recap of the preview posts, to highlight the most interesting albums and the ones that I expect to not disappoint. I'll also include the names of albums that may be worth listening to, but not interesting enough for me to write about.
Just 1-2 days away from Comiket 89!
