It's here! My most anticipated C86 album. Did it meet my expectations? Read more to find out. Ever since Four Resolutions, I knew there was something special about Taka's work. But it wasn't until Sepia Recollections (C85) that I truly became a fan and worshiper of his music. Continuing off from Sepia, Caramel Crunch (R11) was a huge success as a Vocal Rock album. Since this is an original album, Taka was able to show off his composing skills and really had some good ideas to work with in this album. Since there are no vocals in this album, we really get to hear more of Taka's solo guitar here. I felt that the rhythm guitar and the drums in the album were done very well and complemented each other. My favorite track in this album would have to be Sorrow, as it is the most different track in the album. Rather than the heavy metal focus on the other tracks, Sorrow opens off softly with the rhythm guitar and drums before Taka's solo guitar joins in. It is a slower ballad style rift with an emphasis on conveying emotions. It is ironic that the album is called Loudness War as it sounds quite compressed. The average DR for the album ended up being 6, which is pretty standard nowadays for music but I think he could have done better. The instruments sounded blurred in at times, with the drums lacking some impact, and the high hats lacking shimmer. Overall I thought that Loudness War was a pretty solid album by Taka. However, I felt that it lacked that special "something" that would push it from a 4.5/5 to a 5/5. It could have perhaps used a bit more variety in the tracks like In Resonance of the Nickel Strings (C84)
Having heard Taka's work with vocalists in Sepia Recollections (C85), Caramel Crunch (R11), and Acoustic Episode (C82), I would really love for him to go towards making either more touhou arrangements or original compositions with well known vocalists in the doujin scene rather than making solo albums. 4.5/5 - Excellent with a few minor problems.
